Party Bridge

Fred Bolton

Party Bridge provides an opportunity for all interested members of Branch 146 to play bridge.

Members of the group host monthly games at their homes. We play on the first Monday of the month, starting at 10 a.m. and generally finish by 2.30 p.m. Members bring their lunch, and the host provides desert and drinks. The game consists of seven rounds, with each player moving to a new partner after each round of four hands. Scoring is total points for the day. Each player contributes $1 to the prize kitty, and the four top scores share in the "prize". which varies by the number of players.

The chairman of the group maintains a roster of active players, arranges for a host for the monthly game and assures that the correct number of players participate to fill tables of four.He also coordinates with the Area 2 bridge chairman for participation in an Area 2 mixer bridge luncheon, and organizes semi-annual Ladies day bridge luncheons for Br. 146, when wives and lady friends are invited. These games are held at local restaurants.

As noted in the SIR Call, we depend on interested members to contact the chairman for inclusion in the player roster. Currently we vary from three to five tables, and should we exceed twenty players for the day, names are drawn from a jar to see who will be asked to skip that month. The name is then removed from the jar, until all names are drawn. Should we regularly exceed twenty players, it will be the chairman's responsibility to develop other arrangements for play, rather than the home host system.
