The purpose of the Couples Duplicate Bridge group is to have fun and fellowship while playing duplicate bridge. So far this has worked great.
We meet on the third Wednesday of each month in participants homes and rotate being hosts. We get together at 7:00 pm, play 21 hands, and usually finish about 11:00 or so. The couples play as partners and play either North/South or East/West on each hand.
We usually have four tables for bridge, which is as many as we figure most homes can handle . The group currently has nine couples, one more than can play at the four tables, so if all the couples want to play the same month a drawing is held to see which one has to skip the month. We have only had two such drawings so far, a pace of one a year. Because nine couples are already playing in the group, no new couples are being added at this time. Four other couples are on the substitute list and fill in occasionally when two or more of the regular couples are not available.
To add interest and perhaps to add to the competition each couple puts $2 a session in the kitty for prize money. First place couple wins $7, second place $4, third place $3, and fourth place $2. As you can see no one gets rich winning or goes broke feeding the kitty.
