Minutes of the Executive Committee Meeting
July 12. 2007
I. Call to Order
Big Sir Jim Stedman called the meeting to order at 9:30 AM.
II. Members in Attendance
Officers and Directors: Baily, Gates, Hallett, Mitchell, O’Sullivan, Snyder, Somerville, Stedman, Thomson, Zamolo. Committee Chairmen: Bill Root, Bob Spellman, Jim Jackson, Don Nunn, Jack Calloway, Garth Cummings, Dick Richmond, Frank Rockwell, Lynn Freeman, Doug Cook, Ray Kan, Charlie Kiser, Dick DeVoe, Bill Schmeh and Dave Obera.
III. Secretary’s Report
The minutes of the June 14, 2007 BEC meeting were accepted.
IV Treasurer’s Report
Bill Snyder presented the report for June. At month end our bank balance was $ 8,744.53. Also presented was a report of budget vs. actual for the first half of 2007 with a favorable variance of $67.00.
V Little Sir’s Report
Today our speaker will be Etta Maitland. She is Contra Costa Ombudsman for Nursing home Advocacy. She will be speaking about “The Changing Face of Long Term Care”.
Our August speaker will be Tapan Munroe, well known in California and the U. S. for his economic and policy analysis consulting and advisory work. He is a Director of LECG, a worldwide expert consulting firm. His topic will be “The 2007 Economy and What Lies Ahead”.
VI Big Sir’s Report
The August luncheon will be “Wild Shirt Day”. This will be announced in the SIR CALL.
Bar Location . A test of moving our bar location from the Atrium Bar to the Lounge Bar has been considered. The move could be made at no additional cost to Branch 146. Tom Thomson made a motion. Seconded by Jeff Baily to move our luncheon bar location to the lounge bar. This motion was amended by Jeff Baily and Stuart Somerville to limit the move to a two month test. Amended motion failed.
Jim Stedman provided two reports, Membership Status and Luncheon Attendance to the BEC for their information.
Jim Stedman explained the dilemma we have regarding proposing a candidate for Area Governor. We all thought that Harry Hubinger would run again. On July 10, 2007 Jim requested our retired Big Sirs to consider running for this office, so far no one has stepped foreword. The following motion was made: Branch 146 does not have a candidate for Area Governor at this time but would like wait until August 20, 2007 for a final decision. Motion Bill Snyder seconded by Stuart Somerville. Motion passed.
VII Old Business
Larry Mitchell and Al Zamolo were charged with exploring for a suitable place to hold our 2008 Christmas Luncheon. They were not able to find a place large enough, with suitable parking at a price that would be acceptable to our Branch.
VIII New Business
Explore and Dine . This would be a new activity for our Branch proposed by Jim Stedman. The activity would involve visiting an interesting place e.g. museum and then having lunch. Approval was requested for a trip on August 23d to visit the Black Hawk Auto Museum and have lunch locally. Travel would be by personal automobile. Motion by Larry Mitchell, seconded by Dennis Hallet, passed.
Single Sir Dine Out Activity . Branch 8 has this activity and has invited any of our members who may be interested to join with them. This will be announced in the SIR CALL.
Book Group Activity . This activity has been suggested, an announcement in the SIR CALL will be made to see if there is any interest.
IX Committee Reports
Membership Chairman , Jim Jackson requested approval to accept three new members, Kenneth Costello, Louis Schrepel and Peter Bishop. MSP.
Luncheon Chairman , Bill Root, presented our expected attendance to be 209. Our guarantee to Blake’s is 195.
Golf Chairman , Dick Richmond reported that a 9 hole golf group is in the process of being formed. Howard Harvey will assist in this activity. So far, 22 members have expressed an interest.
Dick reminded the BEC that Bob Bolt will be conducting a golf clinic for SIR 146 members. The first clinic will be held on July 19 th at the Boundary Oak driving range.
On our regular golf day August 7 Th we will play a scramble format tournament with teams set by Dick Richmond.
Theater Chairman , Bill Hansen requested approval for a trip on Wednesday July 25th to see “The Jersey Boys”. Transportation will be up to the individuals attending. MSP.
Dinner Dance/Social Chairman , Don Nunn announced that information on our next Dinner Dance will be placed in the next issue of SIR CALL.
SIR CALL Editor , Pete Gates will be on vacation and Rich Ahlf will be in charge of the next issue.
